Officially, the first confederate Rebel flag was the Stars and Bars. This confederate flag flew from March 1861 to May of 1863 and was loved by the people. During the Civil War, many Southern states left the Union. These Confederate or "Rebel" states wanted their own flag to fly, so the rebel flag came forth.. There were many designs of rebel flags during the Civil War. The Last Confederate flag didn’t last long from March 4th, 1856 since the war ended. The Confederate flag has also appeared on several southern state flags at one time or another. The only state keep the rebel flag as part of their state flag presently, is Mississippi.
